noon Sept. 23 -- National Press Club president Jeff Ballou to visit
Hosted by local press clubs, National Press Club President Jeff Ballou, a native of Pittsburgh, will speak at noon Sept. 23 at the Engineer’s Society, 337 Fourth Ave. in downtown Pittsburgh. Ballou was installed in January as the 110th president of the National Press Club, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., with more than 3,500 members.
He is a news editor at Al Jazeera Media Network, where he helped launch the English language channel in 2006. Ballou also helped to establish the channel’s U.S. State Department and Congressional beats and is part of a global editorial leadership team.
Previously, he worked at WTTG-TV/FOX 5 DC as a planning editor, at CONUS as a producer, and at C-SPAN, WAMU and National Public Radio.
Ballou graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and African-American studies from Penn State University. He taught at Howard University while earning a master’s degree in journalism and public affairs from American University. He resides in Washington, D.C.
The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh Black Media Federation, and Women’s Press Club of Pittsburgh are hosting the event.
Tickets, which include lunch, are $25 for members of Pittsburgh area press clubs and $30 for non-members.
