The Women's Press Club of Pittsburgh hosted, with the Pennsylvania Women's Press Association, a panel discussion on the use of singular "they" in journalism at the University of Pittsburgh.
As the 2015 "word of the year," will journalists have to adapt to using the singular "they" instead of "he" or "she" to become more gender inclusive, similar to "Ms." decades ago?
Led by press club president Stacey Federoff, speakers included:
Charlie Deitch, editor of Pittsburgh City Paper, which announced it would use singular "they" in August;
Danielle Fox, editor-in-chief of the Pitt News, which announced more gender-inclusive language in January;
Scott Kiesling, a Pitt linguistics professor, whose work deals with gender and language; and
Dena Stanley of Project Silk, which works with young gay and transgender people of color.
Here is a PDF of the slides used by Kiesling during the discussion:

WPC joined the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania to visit the exhibit "Warhol: Headlines" at the Andy Warhol Museum on Pittsburgh's North Side.
The visit was scheduled for the last day of the exhibit that traced a rich headline motif through 80 works by the Pittsburgh Pop artist — from paintings, drawings, prints, photography and sculpture to film, video and television. A major yet unexplored theme that ran through Warhol's entire career, the headline encompassed many of his key subjects, including celebrity, death, disaster and current events.
